2005 Tour to Tibet
On August 1, 2005, a group of travelers and members of the Children of Tibet Trust went to Tibet to visit sacred monastic sites, see areas of astounding natural beauty, and to participate in the Trust's trip-specific mission-to give aid to 160 children who live in the village of Drigung, the home village of the creator of the Trust, Achi Tsepal.
The trip started in Chengdu and two tours were offered: one option was a two-week trip that included Lhasa and Shigetse (and their surrounding areas), and a four-week trip that included everything in the two-week trip plus Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. Both groups visited Drigung and stayed with local families. Those who chose to volunteer their time to work in Drigung were entitled to deduct part of their trip's expenses from their taxable income.
"Focus on Tibet"
A "Focus on Tibet" was held at the Dragonfly Asian Antiques & Collectibles on October 14th, 2005. A slide show from the Children of Tibet Trust Foundation's August 2005 visit to the complex and conflicted region, rich in cultural and spiritual significance, was presented. Tenzing Tsewang, a professional Tibetan/Australian musician trained at the Namgyal Tantric College, the private monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, provided special music.
